Kevin McSweeney is a Management Analyst II Serving the City of Columbus for over forty years in a variety of positions. Kevin received a Bachelor’s of Science from Otterbein College and has used this knowledge and his experience to serve the City of Columbus in many facets. Early in his career, Kevin worked his way up to become in charge of Parking for Traffic and Engineering, during his tenure with Parking, Kevin led change within the City of Columbus. Kevin was the lead for credit card and coin parking meters and after implementing the first of its kind in this region he began looking into the Residential Permit Parking Program. Kevin has been instrumental in developing and monitoring rules and regulations around Permit and Handicap parking as well as Loading and Valet Zones. As a leader, Kevin, understood the City’s vision and continuously identified areas of improvements. At the request of the Transportation Administrator, Kevin was tasked to lead and run the new initiative Columbus*Stat for the Transportation Division. Columbus *Stat was a platform to give City Leaders visibility into performance measures, special projects and budgets constraints. Kevin’s demonstrated Leadership lead him to the Director of Public Service office where he was to oversee and work with all divisions to identify process improvements. While in his role in the Director’s office Kevin’s adaptability to changing circumstances placed him in front of many special projects. As the Subject Matter Expert, he quickly became the Department’s representative to work with Finance and Management on all new building, rehabs and office spaces within the public service team. In 2016 Smart Columbus was implemented, when the City of Columbus won The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Smart City Challenge (SCC). Smart Columbus a platform introduced to demonstrate and evaluate a holistic approach to using new technologies to improve surface transportation performance within a midsized city. Due to his expertise and experience Kevin was asked to help lead this charge and took on a role as Project Manager at the request of the Director of Public Service. From 2016 – 2019 Kevin worked alongside a small group of city employee, AEP and the Columbus Partnership and become a full time Smart Columbus employee. While working for Smart Columbus, Kevin saw the future demand for electric vehicles and worked on the Vulcan side to electrify the city, by pushing for electric vehicles and charging stations. During this time, Kevin was also the parking lead on three different parking projects that later became one “Events Parking Management”. In 2019, the City of Columbus Refuse Director looked to Kevin for input on special projects which has lead Kevin to his current role today. In his short time with Refuse he has worked with Clean Fuels Ohio, has received a partial grant for the cities first Electric Battery Powered Automated Side Loading Refuse Truck. Kevin has used his experience and connections with Smart Columbus to get two Electric Charges installed at their container management building and is currently working on getting several fully electric box trucks to deliver and maintain containers. Kevin has been the recipient of several City of Columbus Mayor awards, with the most recent award due to cost saving initiatives.
