Michael Dunaway is Associate Director for Innovation in the Smart & Connected Systems program at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), with principal responsibility as program lead for
the Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC), a federal Smart City program within the U.S. Department of
Commerce. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and holds an M.A. from the Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and Ph.D. (Systems Engineering) from George
Washington University.
