Chari Mullen

Chari Mullen is the Director of Diversity & Inclusion for the City of Fremont, Ohio and a Certified Diversity Professional through the National Council of Diversity.  In her inaugural role, she has worked with community leaders to diversity the education profession, recruit the largest minority class of first responders, revised the city’s fair housing ordinance, and advanced minority economic development by partnering with the Northwest Ohio Minority Business Assistant Center.  During her career trajectory, she has made a positive impact and deepening awareness of the theory and practice of diversity, equity, and inclusion in government, higher education/secondary education, mental health, manufacturing, and the community at large. 

Mullen has nearly two decades of combined experience in higher education and the public sector in the following:executive level government and higher education administration, criminal justice administration, civil rights advocacy and investigator, along with non-profit management and leadership.   

Her leadership extends beyond higher education and the public sector, but in her volunteer service to the community.  In 2013, Mullen spearhead the creation of Momma’s House Community Development Center; a non-profit organization that helps youth find their purpose so they have a positive impact in their communities.  In 2014, Mullen was sworn-in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Abused and Neglected Children in Sandusky County and currently in Lucas County.

Mullen earned a Master’s of Business Administration in Leadership and Bachelors of Criminal Justice in Justice Administration from Tiffin University.  As a servant leader and educator, she has been building community, inspiring action, and uplifting leaders to push the success needle forward through positive innovation.  Mullen speaks and acts from a spirit of collaboration and strategically guides communities on all diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. In her leisure time, Chari loves engaging in book clubs, listening to jazz music, and exploring new adventures.
