Division Manager, Austin Transportation and Public Works Smart Mobility Office

Kirk Scanlon, AICP, is the Division Manager for the Austin Transportation and Public Works Smart Mobility Office (SMO). The SMO’s mission is to foster innovation via strategic planning, real-world testing of new and emerging technology, and the design of smart city corridors to create a safe and fully realized transportation ecosystem.  Scanlon has been recognized by the City of Austin with a Civic Futures Award for his work in evaluating pilot programs for equity, efficiency, and transparency.
Before joining Austin Transportation and Public Works, he delivered public-private partnerships for the Austin Parks Department, managed the Lower Colorado River Authority’s Capital Improvement Program for parks and open space, and directed the planning division for GrantWorks conducting comprehensive plans for communities throughout Texas. Scanlon is a certified planner (AICP) and he earned his MS in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin.
