As the Smart Cities Director, Akshay Malik manages Philadelphia's technology and innovation strategies to improve the operations and service delivery for the City and its regional partners. His work focuses on the strategic development and implementation of pilots and long-term programs in coordination with operating agencies, specifically in the field of transportation infrastructure management. Before joining the SmartCityPhl team, he was part of the Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Sustainability (OTIS) team, working at the intersection of data science, strategic planning, and transportation safety policy. In the past, he practiced as an architect for several years and led design & construction efforts on a wide range of projects. He holds a Master's in City Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Geospatial Analytics from the University of Pennsylvania. He also has a Bachelor's in Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India.
