Michael Rogers was appointed director of the City of Raleigh's new Department of Transportation and began work on August 29, 2016. The new department consolidates all aspects of transportation, from planning and operations to maintenance, in order to optimize service delivery, and position the City of Raleigh to meet current and future transportation needs. Services include transportation planning, traffic engineering, field services, parking operations, GoRaleigh transit services, and street maintenance. Mr. Rogers has over 25 years of transportation experience which includes implementation of Bus Rapid Transit; services that Raleigh will add with the recently adopted Wake Transit Plan. Other major transportation investments include the recently opened GoRaleigh Station and Raleigh Union Station; which is currently under construction. Previously, Mr. Rogers served as the public works director for the City of Peoria, Illinois and the assistant director of public works for the City of San Antonio, Texas. He also has past extensive transportation experience with the Michigan Department of Transportation, various county organizations and the private sector. Mr. Rogers hold as a master's degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University and a bachelor's degree in construction engineering from Lawrence Technological University.
