Tamika "Mika" Gadsden is the Director of Sustainability for the City of Charleston under Mayor William S. Cogswell, Jr.'s administration. She works alongside the Chief Resilience Officer to lead the city’s environmental and sustainability goals, with a primary focus on implementing the City’s Sea Level Rise Strategy. Her work involves developing complex initiatives to address increased flood risk, advocating for sustainable solutions that protect homes and businesses, and managing the City’s Resiliency and Sustainability Advisory Committee.

A dedicated environmental justice advocate and founding member of Friends of Gadsden Creek, Mika brings a unique perspective to city government by ensuring that historically excluded communities have a voice in shaping resilience policy. She develops and implements action items that produce multiple benefits, prioritizing green infrastructure, sustainable water management, and creative partnerships to advance the city's goals.

Previously a podcast and radio host and the inaugural Community Leader in Residence at the College of Charleston, Mika excels at translating complex scientific and political issues for the public. She manages the division’s online presence, produces high-quality communications, and represents Charleston in professional networks, including the Southeast Sustainability Directors Network. Her career reflects a deep commitment to bridging community advocacy with effective, equitable urban policy.
