Councilman Christopher Awe is a dedicated public servant, community advocate, and policy leader committed to advancing equity, opportunity, and responsible governance in the City of East Orange. Elected in 2018 to represent the 2nd Ward, he has established a record defined by principled leadership, fiscal stewardship, and deep engagement with residents. He has served as City Council Chairman and chaired several key committees, including Finance; Planning and Grants; and Housing, Licensing, and Inspection.

A proud graduate of the East Orange School District, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Guided by the values of his Nigerian immigrant parents and his HBCU experience, he remains deeply rooted in service.

Beyond City Hall, Councilman Awe is an educator, mentor, and community organizer. He is active with his beloved Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Always a voice for those unheard, Councilman Awe serves as a Male Ambassador with regional health coalitions as strong advocate for maternal and child health equity. He also co-founded Unlock Africa, LLC, supporting sustainable African entrepreneurship.

From strengthening municipal finances to advancing affordable housing, public art, and health equity, Councilman Awe remains committed to uplifting and advocating for every East Orange resident.
