Chief Economist, Director of Data, Analytics and Modeling

Ray Major is the Director of Data Analytics, and Modeling, and Chief Economist for the
San Diego Association of Governments. (SANDAG). He manages a staff of 76
employees with responsibility for directing and overseeing five divisions including
Automated Regional Justice Information Systems, Applied Research/Criminal Justice
Unit, Regional Information Services, Regional Economic, Demographic and
Transportation Models, as well as the Service Bureau. In addition, he leads the agencies
efforts in big data, big data analytics and is responsible for coordinating data sharing and
smart mobility efforts with other agencies.

The various divisions Ray manages gather, analyze, and disseminate information and data that is essential to the
success of SANDAG and the San Diego Region.

In his role as Chief Economist, Ray is responsible for the agencies short-term and long-term economic and
demographic forecasting, the region’s economic prosperity strategy and impact analysis of regionally significant
projects on the local economy.

Ray has over 20 years of private sector experience as a senior executive providing oversight and direction for the
profitable growth of companies and business units. His career has included senior leadership roles ranging from Vice
President to CEO in startup to large companies with a focus on data, analytics, and business intelligence products
and services.

Ray Major holds a Masters of Arts and Bachelors of Arts in Economics from San Diego State University, and is a
Certified Six Sigma Champion.
